Tattoo removal
Tattoos may be removed in a number of ways. Traditionally, surgery was the mainstay treatment and is still used in selected cases. More often, however, lasers have been developed to specifically remove tattoos. At Regency Oak, we have access to a laser centre which is equipped with the most modern technology.
The laser is a powerful beam of light, which shines through the skin and breaks down the ink pigment into smaller particles, allowing the white blood cells to carry it away. After each treatment, more and more of the tattoo fades until it has gone completely.
Since the treatment is not surgical, the final results are excellent; however, a faint shadow may result until the tan in the skin returns to normal.
Most people liken the sensation to having a tattoo put on. No anaesthetic is required and any discomfort is short- lived. Most patients can return to their normal activities immediately after treatment.
The time taken to treat a tattoo will vary depending on its size and density, but on average it will take about ten to twenty minutes. A number of treatments will be required to fully fade the tattoo. It can vary depending on each tattoo and each individual, but on average four treatments are required for amateur tattoos and approximately eight for professional ones.
